°° Carnival of Cultures: This year the Carnival of Cultures turned 16 years old. The most colourful, diverse and vivid festival of Berlin enchanted 1,36 million visitiors over the Pentecost weekend 2011. Visitors to the German capital, and "Kiezbewohner" alike, experienced the unique atmosphere of Berlin when the metropolis showed itself at it's best: cosmopolitan, multicultural and passionate. On the Sunday of Pentecost, 27th May 2012, about 4.500 participants organised in approximately 100 groups will change Kreuzberg into a sea of colours and ideas. Aside from the huge street parade there will be a street festival, the childrens carnival and of course lots of parties. Check out the entire program at the website °° Website
°° ART & TOYS – Collection Selim Varol: “My collection, that’s me – my childhood, my friends, my heroes, my role models, what I enjoy, what moves me. pictures from my journey: ‘at home i’m a tourist’’’ says Selim Varol. The collector has been collecting toys since his childhood and owns one of the largest collections of figurines in Europe. The focus of his collection lies in works by artists who trace their origins back to street art and ‘Pop Surrealism’. One characteristic shared by all the works in this collection is the close link between art and the everyday, as well as their often playful and humorous or subversive character. °° Romeo and Juliet: Ballet in three acts. Almost no other material has been adapted so many times to the dance stage as that of William Shakespeare's ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The adaptation by John Cranko has gone down in ballet history with good reason: With his dancers, he constantly sought to portray real emotions and did everything he could to directly include these in his choreographies.
