from 1929: Germania-Brotbäckerei Pfefferberg (Germania Bakery Pfefferberg) started making bread
from 1947: the publishers Verlag Neues Deutschland established its print works and fleet
from 1973: small companies and public institutions opened; local housing administration company Kommunale Wohnungsverwaltung Prenzlauer Berg based its workshops and warehouses here
ca. 1990: around 90% of Pfefferberg lay idle
from 1991: used as a music and cultural center by the nonprofit company Pfefferwerk Stadtkultur gGmbH
from 2001: careful reconstruction and renovation on all 21 Pfefferberg buildings began; various companies and organizations moved in (e.g., the Akira Ikeda Gallery, Architekturforum Aedes, Pfefferwerk Stadtkultur)
February 2007: renovation and restoration of building 6 started
May 2008: the Pfefferbett Hostel is finished; grand opening
